Gramercy is the neighbourhood surrounding Gramercy Park, a gorgeous private park in the heart of New York City. The park itself is located between 20th and 21st Streets, closest to the 23rd Street Subway Station. You won’t be able to get into the park itself, but the surrounding roads are popular with joggers and cyclists, and the surrounding area is of artistic and historic interest. The park is also open to members of the Players Club and the National Arts Club, and entry to the park also accompanies a stay at the Gramercy Park Hotel which, while decidedly not cheap, has the virtue of exclusivity. You really couldn’t pick a better place for a week-end brunch spot. This high-end neighbourhood is filled to the brim with interesting little eateries and beautiful views. Bring your children and family along and spend a delightful Saturday or Sunday strolling the beautiful quiet streets surrounding the park, admiring the lovely old-fashioned buildings and gorgeous streets, and stopping in for a delightful brunch buffet at a local restaurant. The area surrounding the park was made a historic district in 1966, and has been called one of the earliest examples of city planning in New York. The main charm of Gramercy, aside from its general beauty and the number of quiet, small restaurants dotting the place, is the fact that it remains true to its original purpose – a lovely neighbourhood in an old-fashioned style, quiet and well-cared for, built around a gorgeous park. There are no flashing lights or thumping beats to be found here – merely a peaceful and well-maintained serenity perfect to enjoy with family or friends.
