West Village is a neighbourhood in New York made up of the western part of Greenwich Village between the Hudson River and Sixth Avenue, and West 14th Street and West Houston Street. It’s a marvellous place for wandering around – primarily residential with small, original shops and restaurants dotted throughout, and is one of the most expensive neighbourhoods in the United States. The West Village is a spectacular spot to take in brunch over a week-end, and offers unmatched people-watching potential if you pick the right restaurant. It’s also full of historic buildings, parks, and other places of interest, so if the plan is to have the whole family enjoy themselves, the West Village might just be the perfect spot to visit. Among the area’s more famous buildings is the Jefferson Market Branch of the New York Public Library. The building was originally used as a courthouse, but was turned into a library when the public protested against plans to demolish the site. The building itself is a charming one, while the library is well-worth exploring. Another well-known attraction in the area is the Hudson River Park, which features many charming bicycle and pedestrian trails, perfect for working up an appetite before hitting a brunch buffet at one of the nearby restaurants. The West Village is also home to Whitney Museum of American Art, which boasts a perfectly glorious collection of more than 21 000 works, and is a wonderful place to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning with the children.
